Abstract

Background: The Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex endocrine syndrome characterized by a constellation of metabolic disorders with physiological, clinical, metabolic, and biochemical factors. Obesity, visceral adiposity, obesity in the abdomen, insulin resistance (IR), dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure, endothelial dysfunction, and acute or chronic inflammation are the risk markers linked with MetS.
Objectives: In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of the markers that are involved in lipid transport (Macrophage Scavenger Receptor-1; ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter-A1; and Apo-Lipoprotein A1) in pre- and diabetic patients.
Subject and Methods: This study includes 30 pre- diabetic, 29 diabetic patients, along with 20 controls. The concentrations of ABCA1, ApoA1, and MSR-1 were evaluated by using a sandwich ELISA.
Results: MSR1 was significantly higher in T2D patients compared to other groups (P <0.0001), ABCA-1 was significantly lower in both T2D and pre-D groups compared to controls (P <0.0001), and ApoA1 was also significantly lower in T2D compared to controls (P <0.0001).
Conclusion: MSR1 can promote lipid-induced inflammation, which is noticed by elevated lipid profile levels among metabolic patients. A low level of ABCA-1 can result in dysregulation in HDL production, resulting in cholesterol accumulation.
