Abstract

Abstract

Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) continue to pose a significant challenge in healthcare systems, particularly in critical care settings like neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The purpose of this study was to assess bacterial contamination in neonatal incubators and surrounding environments, as well as to evaluate healthcare workers' infection control practices.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in the NICU at Al-Zahraa Teaching Hospital in Al-Najaf City. Bacterial samples were collected from incubators and environmental surfaces, and healthcare workers were given a structured questionnaire. Bacterial identification was carried out using standard microbiological methods.

The study emphasizes the presence of bacterial contamination on high-contact surfaces, as well as the importance of infection control practices in limiting pathogen spread. To reduce contamination risks in NICU settings, cleaning protocols must be strengthened and hygiene measures strictly followed.
