Prevalence of Digital Addiction among University Student's in Al- Najaf City

Excessive and compulsive digital technology use damages individual and societal health. Digital addiction impairs daily functioning. We established the baseline prevalence of this condition among students at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in Najaf.A descriptive cross-sectional design and utilized convenience sampling at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. The sample comprised 600 students. Participants completed a 24-item scale to evaluate specific manifestations and behaviors of digital addiction. Data collection ran from November 7 2024 through March 30 2025. We processed the responses with IBM SPSS version 26.Participants aged 20 to 22 years make up 53.33% of the cohort and females represent 62.33% of total respondents. Single device ownership applies to 52% of the sample whereas 36.67% maintain two devices. Daily internet consumption falls between 3 and 6 hours for 59.67% of students. Another 31.17% exceed 6 hours. The recorded exposure establishes high daily digital interaction.Frequent device usage reflects advanced addiction levels for a large student cohort. Digital addiction disorder prevalence correlates strongly with gender place of residence and number of hours of sleep. Students must monitor their consumption. Educational resources provide a necessary alternative to excessive negative entertainment.
